Andrea Harvey is an Attorney with a high success rate who shows true commitment and passion for helping others both through her law practice and her involvement in the community. Andrea graduated from Mercer University with a B.A. in English Literature and African American Studies. She later earned her law degree (Juris Doctor) at the University of Arkansas School of Law in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Her unique background in social work and Human Resources allows Andrea to apply her valuable work experiences towards her current law practice dedicated to serving the legal needs of those in Illinois.
Prior to practicing law Andrea worked in social services, where she helped families who were experiencing a divorce, child support and child custody issues. Andrea supervised visits for children removed from unsafe homes, as well as conducted interviews with families to ensure the children were in a safe environment. She also served as a consultant to the court, testifying in hearings regarding whether or not parental rights would be terminated. This gave Andrea enlightening insight into the different experiences families went through in court in extreme circumstances- as well as how the court truly defines, ‘best interests of the child.’ She would ultimately use this knowledge and experience to enhance her career in family law.
Andrea continued to pursue opportunities regarding family law matters while working as a judicial law clerk for a family law judge. In addition to researching and writing briefs related to divorce matters, Andrea was able to observe cases from a Judge’s perspective- an invaluable experience that only furthered her interest in family law. Andrea also gained experience in family law from working with the State’s Attorney’s Office where she worked to prosecute people who were severely past due in child support as well assisting citizens with pursuing child support.
In her corporate career, Andrea has worked for three Fortune 500 companies in Human Resources. Andrea conducted interviews and background checks, as well as participated in internal investigations due to allegations of employee wrongdoing and/or subsequent to terminations. First-hand experience in dealing with employment law issues at these companies has given Andrea a strong understanding of how to approach legal cases concerning wrongful termination, whistleblowing and a hostile work environment.
In 2010 Andrea decided to combine her social work, legal experience, corporate human resources and business acumen to open Harvey Law Office where she practices in the areas of family law and employment law. Her unique work background has given her the ability to understand these two areas of law from both the court’s and the people’s perspectives. Andrea helps promote improvements in the administration of justice as a member of the Chicago Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association and Indian American Bar Association. An active member of her community, Andrea continues to pursue her passion for helping others outside of her law practice by helping people understand their legal rights in the area of family and employment law. Andrea has served as a guest speaker at various events educating women and men about their legal rights. Andrea also utilizes technology to educate and reach thousands of followers via social media sites such as Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.
